Pahinui fights bronchitis
Cyril Pahinui is recovering at Queens Medical Center this week after being admitted recently with bacterial bronchitis, according to a Facebook update posted Monday by the Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning recording artist and slack key master.
"Last week at (Kani Ka Pila Grille), I started to feel dizzy and tired,” he said. “We have such wonderful doctors and staff here at our Queens Hospital who have taken very good care of me and I (am) hoping to get released soon.
“Mahalo nui to all of you who have called, (texted) and emailed. We sincerely appreciate your aloha and concern.”
Pahinui, 64, is the son of legendary Hawaiian musician Gabby “Pops” Pahinui and mentioned in the post that he looks forward to producing the eighth annual Gabby Pahinui Waimanalo Kanikapila this summer. In addition to regular tour dates in the continental U.S., Asia and beyond, he also serves on the Board of Governors for the Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts and helps produce the annual Seattle Slack Key Festival.
