OHA partners with Street Grindz
Local food event production company Street Grindz LLC will soon have a new home at the former Fisherman’s Wharf location in Kaka’ako Makai, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs announced Monday.
“Street Grindz has created exciting and interesting dining concepts,” said OHA CEO Kamana‘opono Crabbe in a statement. “This interim will help make our Kaka‘ako Makai lands a gathering place while we continue to work on a master plan for future development.”
Street Grindz, which launched food-focused Eat the Street in 2011, followed by fashion- and shopping-focused Honolulu Night Market in 2012, will receive interim access rights to conduct daily activities at Fisherman’s Wharf.
An updated timeline for OHA’s master plan of the 30 acres of land it owns in the area was not provided, although Street Grindz said construction on their parcel could begin within weeks and potentially be completed this summer.
“A lot of the inspiration for our concept draws from our experiences with markets and dining around the world and in the (United States),” said Street Grindz owner and CEO Poni Askew in the statement. “We are fortunate that OHA is on board with our concept for the space, giving us the opportunity to go back to our roots of supporting local, small businesses while focusing on our passion for sustainability in Hawaii.”
