Hollywood A-listers Colin Farrell and Laura Dern are among the honorees to be recognized by the 2015 Maui Film Festival next week in Wailea.
A variety of parties, film screenings and other special events are planned from June 3 to June 7 at the Celestial Cinema, located at the Wailea Gold and Emerald Golf Course, and the Castle and McCoy Theater at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.
A third venue, the Toes in the Sand Cinema, will bring the movie-watching experience to the ocean’s edge at Wailea Beach behind the Four Seasons Maui.
“With more honorees than we’ve celebrated in a decade and a living, breathing wish list of many of the most critically acclaimed films of summer, and Maui as it's home, the 16th Annual Maui Film Festival is ready for its close up," said Maui Film Festival director Barry Rivers in a statement. "Come June 3rd, we plan to light the candle — make that 16 candles! — and blast off for … (an) early celebration of summer cinema and culinary arts celebrations par excellence!”
In addition to Dern and Farrell, Adam Driver, Scott Eastwood, Teresa Palmer and Louie Psihoyos will be presented with awards during the festival.
The Maui Film Festival was founded in 2000 as a “celebration and exploration of cinema at the intersection of smart and heart.” More than 600 films from around the world have been screened at the festival over the last 16 years, with celebrities like Pierce Brosnan, Tim Burton, Claire Danes, Zooey Deschanel, Clint Eastwood, Zac Efron, Jake Gyllenhaal, Woody Harrelson, Helen Hunt, Mike Myers, Lupita Nyong’o, Dennis Quaid, Emma Roberts, Owen Wilson and others in attendance.
