UH surfers shoot for Red Bull fame

October 22nd, 2015

A group of University of Hawaii at Manoa students only have a few hours left to get the votes necessary to advance in the Red Bull Bracket Reel Surf contest.

Surfers Kaikea Elias, Cole Yamakawa, Kylen Yamakawa and editor Alyssa Bokovoy were hand-picked to compete in the head-to-head competition; they got into the water to film the clip posted above. After knocking out the Santa Barbara Surf Crew in the first round, the UH team trails the Monmouth University Surf Club by approximately 150 votes as of 3 p.m.

Voting ends at 8 p.m. today; click here to participate. The winner will advance to a third round and final round of competition, with a "Red Bull Ultimate Surf Experience" up for grabs. The winning team will paddle out with pro surfers Ian Walsh and Jamie O'Brien for a session that will also be filmed by a professional videographer.
